Enjoy the familiar ceilidh/barn dance format (live music, dance leader, fun) with one essential difference – the music and steps are old-style Jewish, rather than Celtic.
Dance caller/leader Ilana Cravitz will take you through the steps for lively freylekhs, sinuous horas, upbeat bulgars and more with Družba, a top-notch band of Devon’s finest klezmer musicians. No previous experience or partner needed.
Lisa Rowe – violin
Anita Munson – clarinet
Basil Bunelik – accordion
Rupert Mcdonald – guitar
Družba founder, Basil Bunelik writes, “The word [družba] means friendship in Slavonic languages and we hope to promote love of East European music. We continue to develop a tantalising mix of klezmer, gypsy, Russian, Romanian, Ukrainian and Hungarian folk music and songs. Lisa our fiddler sings in these languages in a meeting of beautiful melodies and sounds, supported by Rupe on guitar and Basil, exploiting the full potential of accordion as a truly expressive instrument.”
