Sam Richards, piano
Marcus Vergette, double bass
Steve Day, drums

Pianist, Thelonious Monk composed some of the most iconic contemporary music of the 20th Century, including: Round Midnight; Straight, No Chaser; Ruby My Dear and Epistrophy which all became synonymous with classic jazz. In April the Sam Richards Trio’s Thelonious Monk programme sold out at Totnes Cinema and received a whooping encore.

The band’s set-list now includes rare Monk masterpieces like Stuffy Turkey, Children’s Song, Oska T, Functional and We See, alongside other favourites.

Sam Richards is a Devon legend! A totally original pianist, straddling stride technique, blues and orchestral soloing. With him in the trio are Mike Westbrook’s bass player, the seriously swinging Marcus Vergette and inventive drummer (and poet), Steve Day. These guys are long time students of Thelonious Monk — prepare for creativity and a great night out!
