“If there is another way – for this inspiringly unique mix of musical voices – then it lies beyond easy categorisation. While elements of jazz, folk and soul coalesce here, The Other Way has a chemistry that’s more than the sum of its parts.

Led by trumpeter and nature conservationist Rowan Porteous, The Other Way tells stories of ecological renewal, where sounds of birds and animals wail against a deep, paired back groove .

After receiving Arts Council development funding, the band have performed to rapt audiences around the South West, including Cheltenham Jazz Festival. Their debut album, ‘Learning to Be’ is now available to buy on Bandcamp – theotherway1.bandcamp.com/album/learning-to-be

Rowan Porteous – trumpet and electronics
Elly Hopkins – voice and guitar
Billie Bottle – keyboards and vocal
Guillaume Ottaviani – bass
Emma Holbrook – drums

Al Swainger’ Pointless Beauty (solo set)

In a world constantly seeking to destroy our attention spans, and steal our every waking moment, Al Swainger exhibits a patient determination to gently restore our mental health and emotional independence through his project Pointless Beauty. Working in a variety of contexts he released two quintet albums, three solo albums and a host of collaborative and solo singles so far. As a solo performer he is committed to a spirit of sonic adventure that oscillates between hypnotic grooves and abstract soundscapes.”
