Jakub Klimiuk Quintet is a new project combining modern jazz with influences from Scandinavian improvised music, Eastern European folk and contemporary classical pieces. The resulting repertoire, all original compositions, is a highly energetic mix of scripted forms and free improvisation, drawing from various genres but at the same time staying deeply rooted in the jazz tradition.
The quintet’s EP “Reluctance” is “a reflection on the uncertainty of current times, a way to express intertwining feelings of hope and skepticism.” The album takes listeners on a journey through different sound worlds, from modern jazz inspired by New York scene to hip-hop grooves.
The band features musicians associated with the Guildhall School of Music & Drama, and Trinity Laban m,usic colleges in London. Despite their youth, the musicians have performed at venues including The Vortex, 606 Club and Ronnie Scott’s and individually have worked with Martin Speake, Tom Challenger, NYJO, Morsyca, Donovan Haffner and Húrra among others.
