Come to the first ever Milonga at Ashburton Arts Centre. Let yourself be charmed by the mesmerizing sounds of the bandoneon played by Ruth Rozelaar and Jamie Gifford, from Canberra, Australia. There’s dance space downstairs and seated listening space there and up in the balcony.

In June this year, Ruth Rozelaar brought bandoneonist extraordinaire Orlando Dibelo to the UK from Argentina, and we were privileged to hear them playing together here in the Arts Centre.  This time, Ruth is bringing Jamie Gifford to play once more in the a la parrilla style, where the musicians react to each other and the dancers, and everything is not 100% planned in advance. June’s performance was for listening rather than dancing. This time everything is dedicated to creating as much space as possible for dancing tango. When he isn’t playing, Jamie will take to the decks as a traditional tango DJ.
