Molly No-Mates is hosting this hour-long Molly dancing workshop for anyone who would like to give Morris a go. They will be teaching their own dance to ‘Hal-an-Tow’, a traditional May Day song (whose lyrics we have reworked). Singing along is also encouraged and printed lyrics will be provided!

All abilities welcome, wear whatever you are comfortable dancing in.

Molly No-Mates is Bristol’s premier queer, drag king Molly dancing team. Molly is a form of Morris dancing that gets its name from the tradition of featuring a man wearing a dress and apron- known as the Molly. The word ‘Molly’ has been used since the 18th century as both a slur and a self-adopted term for gay and gender non-conforming men, cross-dressers, trans women and male sex workers. It is a tradition with queerness – though mostly unacknowledged — in its DNA.

This event is part of Summer is Ready! Field System’s Mayday Celebration run in collaboration with our neighbours, Field System gallery: https://fieldsystem.co.uk/

See Access, Tickets & Finding Us for more about why there are three ticket prices, plus other useful info about coming to events at Ashburton Arts Centre: getting here, parking, loos, PA tickets, etc.

* We usually have three ticket prices – please pay what you can. If you can pay the full price, that’s great. If choosing a cheaper ticket allows you to come to more things, then please do! Ticket receipts are split between the artists (it’s usually their livelihood!) and the arts centre (keeps the place going). Except on the rare occasions when we have a sellout gig on our hands, it’s always better to have someone here in the audience than an empty seat, so genuinely, please pay whatever you can.
