In this workshop, internationally-recognised choir leader Dessislava Stefanova, of the London Bulgarian Choir  will plunge participants into the rich living tradition of Bulgarian singing. She will provide insights into the vocal technique that gives power to the voice, and voice to the heart.

You will be introduced to the basic techniques of voice production and special vocal effects (like shaking and hiccoughing) used in Bulgarian singing and learn some Bulgarian songs in two and three-part harmony.

Dessislava Stefanove is Musical Director of the London Bulgarian Choir.
People who hear Bulgarian music for the first time are impressed and touched by its immense power, vitality and beauty. Bulgarian singing has a unique style, whose fiery rhythms and unusual harmonies “melt” the soul.
Dessi’s workshops are relaxed and friendly – all singers are very welcome whether or not you sing in a choir or read music.

The workshop will happen in the studio upstairs at the Arts Centre (20 steps, no lift).
It will finish at 4pm.
Teas, coffee, water available – bring your own picnic lunch.
Please email boxoffice@ashburtonarts.org.uk with any queries.
