Railroad: Ray Kemp just can’t resist the blues. he has been playing and singing for more years than he cares to remember. He also can’t resist playing at Ashburton Arts Centre, having performed here with his band and as a duo several times over the last few years. In the 1970s he toured Europe with many of the big names in the rock world. He was a founder member of the Devon-based Travelling Bluesburys. Now as a duo with Paul Smail on keys, they play their own brand of blues, bringing in classical and jazz influences.

Back at Nick’s is an eclectic acoustic blues band: six musicians continually developing a unique sound playing blues, jazz and more. With Nick Ephgrave on lead guitar. Previously with London Street blues, Nick’s inspiration and playing is heavily influenced by Peter Green and Eric Clapton. Ian Wederell colours the music with his ukulele. They’re joined by Trevor Cooper on Harmonica and Kerrin Lyons on Cajon and percussion. Kerrin loves to dance and it shows! Nigel holds it all together and drives the train on drums.

Dave Sumner : Lead vocals and songwriter
Nick Ephgrave : lead guitar
Ian Wederell : ukulele
Trevor Cooper Harmonica
Kerrin Lyons : cajon and percussion
Nigel : drums.

On the last Monday of every month, we celebrate the music that draws inspiration from the great tradition that is the blues. Most of the musicians and bands billed are based in Devon and the South West. At the end of each night there’s an open jam session where the musicians on the bill play with each other, and anyone else who’d like to play a tune or two. These nights are curated by local bass player, Mary Caffrey. If you would like to play, or to find out more, contact her on mary.caffrey49@gmail.com.
