Robert Fowler, Tenor Saxophone
with
Martin Dale, Tenor Saxophone
Gavin Martin, piano
Kevin Sanders, double bass
Dennis Harris, drums

This is jazz par excellence, with not one but TWO amazing tenor sax players to the fore.
Both have played here before, but this is the first time they’re together, and with the great rhythm of Martin’s regular quartet.

Martin Dale has that classic jazz tenor sax sound, where you can hear the instrument’s history back to Coleman Hawkins and Ben Webster, through Lester Young and Dexter Gordon, John Coltrane, Hank Mobley – all of the greats.

Robert Fowler
Robert’s jazz career first started, whilst studying Graphic Design in Bristol. He played with a variety of local bands, and often appeared at the famous ‘Old Duke’ where he regularly sat in with visiting stars such as Danny Moss and Roy Williams.
On graduating he was approached to play with The Pasadena Roof Orchestra, on the recommendation of NYJO boss Bill Ashton. Thus followed nearly a decade of international and national touring, travelling much of Europe, the USA and the UK, which Robert found invaluable – nurturing his early talent and developing his rich sound.
As well as the PRO, Robert has worked with many bands from the British jazz scene, appearing with The Great British Jazz Band, The Syd Lawrence Orchestra, Redtenbacher’s Funkestra and The BBC Big Band, he was a member of the Humphrey Lyttelton Band and is a regular with Alan Barnes’ octet as well as The Back to Basie Orchestra.
In 1999 Robert was asked to play on a session for Roxy Music’s Bryan Ferry, for the album ‘As Time goes by’. This led to further touring and recording with Bryan, appearing on his albums ‘Frantic’, ‘Avonmore’, and the ‘Jazz Age’, as well as collaborating on the soundtrack to Baz Luhrman’s ‘Great Gatsby’ and Sky TV’s ‘Babylon Berlin’ series..
Robert has also played on many other Film and TV sessions as well as Orchestral dates with the John Wilson Orchestra, The CBSO, the BBC Concert Orchestra, the RTE Concert Orchestra and the Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra.
Robert has released 2 CDs under his own name: Tight Lines and Flow..
