This concert features a triple-bill of electronic and ambient projects from Norwich and London. Expect something esoteric, experimental – and beautiful!

The first set will be a short solo set by Chris Dowding, featuring pieces made from poems translated into melodies. This solo setup explores shifting melodies, hypnotic patterns and abstract beats.

The second set will by Sylvia & I, the duo collaboration of Chris with Sylvia Hallett. The play dreamy soundscapes made from overlapping loops. They have performed at improvised nights such as Flimflam, The Klinker, Mopomoso and other venues. In 2018, they released the cassette and download release ‘the holding breath’, available here: https://sylviaandi.bandcamp.com/album/the-holding-breath

The third set will feature ‘hymn’. This is a group from Norwich that has a core trio of Chris Dowding (trumpets & electronics), George McKay (double bass) and David Ross (percussion & electronics), playing spacious improvisations informed by simple composed material. They also play with guests and in improvised configurations, under the hymn banner.

This tour is to launch the album ‘silence, then birds’, coming out on the London-based Confront Recordings label, on 20 June 2019. The album features an improvised configuration of Chris, David and Sylvia Hallett (violin & electronics). The Ashburton gig will feature Chris, Sylvia and Graham Dunning, further investigating the hymn aesthetic.

Doors and bar open at 7pm.
