We’re delighted to welcome Aaron (they/them) back to the Arts Centre for a third visit while on tour from the USA.
Virtuoso banjo player and fiddler Aaron Jonah Lewis has been elbow-deep in traditional American music since their first lessons at the age of five with Kentucky native Robert Oppelt. Their concerts take audiences on a journey through the back roads of American old time and folk music, with detours through ragtime and early jazz.
Aaron is passionate about sharing early fingerstyle banjo music. They bring light to the fact that classic banjo was the most popular form of music a hundred years ago, though today it’s almost entirely forgotten.
Aaron is offering to run a workshop during the day on either banjo, or violin. If you’re interested in either, please email boxoffice@ashburtonarts.org.uk.
Aaron Jonah Lewis is touring in the UK and the EU in advance of an appearance at the Rotterdam Bluegrass Festival in late June. A performance by Aaron ranges far and wide through the history of American fiddle and banjo traditions, including tunes and songs from various regions and time periods and the stories that go along with them. In addition to being an engaging performer.
Here are a few clips of Aaron making music:
Doors and bar open at 7pm.
