Sam O’Shanty has lived his whole life at sea, ever since he first stowed away when he were just knee-high to a kipper! Since then he’s sailed the Seven Seas: from Devonport to Durban Bay. From Nantucket to New Guinea. From Cape Wrath to the Cape of Good Hope. But now Sam has come ashore, and with his two shipmates he’s got all manner of marvellous stories to tell.

Shiver yer timbers to the curious tale of a batty witch and her enchanted wee cap!

Or hear the tangled yarn of the Lucky Mermaid and the man who went to sea in a bucket!

And witness the roisterous dramatisation of Blackbeard and his piratical comeuppance!

Sam O’Shanty is a nautically comic show for all the family, crammed with fact, farce and fantasy. A performance in which storytelling, puppetry and the singing of shanties will entertain, enthral and delight…Huzzar!

The performance lasts just over the hour and is suitably fun for family audiences with children over the age of four years.

“This was fabulous fun. Wholly engaging from start to finish. The whole audience, young and old alike audibly enjoyed every moment.” audience member.

“Brilliant! We loved it when dad had to fight Blackbeard!”  young audience member

See Access, Tickets & Finding Us for more about why there are three ticket prices, plus other useful info about coming to events at Ashburton Arts Centre: getting here, parking, loos, PA tickets, etc.

* We usually have three ticket prices – please pay what you can. If you can pay the full price, that’s great. If choosing a cheaper ticket allows you to come to more things, then please do! Ticket receipts are split between the artists (it’s usually their livelihood!) and the arts centre (keeps the place going). Except on the rare occasions when we have a sellout gig on our hands, it’s always better to have someone here in the audience than an empty seat, so genuinely, please pay whatever you can.
