Nobody knows the programme in advance – not even the musicians!
From a pile of music – including string quartets from the last 300 years – the audience will choose pieces, and the musicians will sight-read them, right there in front of everyone: no rehearsal!
As well as being a chance to hear some amazing music, at VERY close quarters, these are all happening in some wonderful houses and gardens. The first is at Great Ambrook, just outside Broadhempston, 20 minutes outside Ashburton and it’s well worth the trip. This is a stunning Grade 2 listed C17th manor house and garden.
Just to the left of the front door, is the ‘Music Room’, designed by TH Lyon (of Ilsington and first director of Cambridge University School of Architecture). He also designed the Italian Gardens, which were lost, but found a few years ago.
