There will be music, joy, laughter, perhaps an edge of seriousness, and almost certainly some silliness as we gather together with Matt Harvey, Jackie Juno, Liv Torc and more at the Ashburton Arts Centre. But mostly it’s all about the let’s-get-togetherness that we’ve all missed so much. Doors and Bar open at 7pm, when tickets will be for sale on the door, if still available.
This is the first event presented here at the Arts Centre by the Ways With Words festival. We’re delighted to welcome them as a partner and collaborator, and look forward to hosting many more of their great events here in Ashburton.
Matt Harvey
“…not only funny but tender and true” – The Guardian
Writer, poet, enemy of all that’s difficult and upsetting, Matt’s way with words have taken him from Totnes to the Wimbledon Tennis Championships via Saturday Live, the Edinburgh Festival and the Work section of the Guardian. Matt is also the creator of Empath Man, who had his own mini-series on Radio 4. He is the author of The Hole in the Sum of my Parts, Where Earwigs Dare, Mindless Body Spineless Mind, Shopping With Dad, and much more. Discover more about Matt here.
Jackie Juno
Jackie Juno a familiar face on the southwest poetry scene with her outspoken views on matters political, environmental and social. She somehow makes such subjects hilarious; but her material can also be tender, sensuous and confessional. She has won numerous poetry slams, done two TEDx Talks, been the Bard and Grand Bard of Exeter for 8 years combined, and has hosted cabarets and poetry nights across Devon. Read more about Jackie’s work here.
Liv Torc
Liv Torc is a poet, artist and ideas weaver who plunges into the vast caverns and dormant volcanoes of the human and planetary condition. A Radio 4 Slam winner, a former Bard of Exeter, and host of The Rainbow Fish Speakeasy, Liv runs the poetry stage at WOMAD and the Hip Yak Poetry School. Her lockdown haiku and photography project, Haiflu featured on the BBC’s Today Programme. Her books include Show Me Life (2015) and Soggy to be published later this year.
