The Dave Hankin Band was formed in November 2007 and began regularly meeting at rehearsals to work on Dave’s library of personally-crafted arrangements. The full-size, 17 piece line-up, plus the captivating vocals of Bern Stewart, were soon branching out from local venues and jazz clubs, and began performing at festivals and theatres around the South West .Along the way, the band has had the pleasure of sharing the stage with some of the biggest names in British music, with the likes of Gordon Campbell (trombone), Bruce Adams (trumpet) and Alan Barnes (saxophone) joining them for special concerts.

Now developing quite a following, the band’s shows have played to sold-out theatres across the region. Dave’s expertly crafted arrangements have been broadcast on radio and TV, and performed by the BBC Big Band. The band’s repertoire includes unforgettable music from the likes of  Benny Goodman, Count Basie, Buddy Rich, Duke Ellington, Nelson Riddle  and vocal swing from The Rat Pack. Audiences of all ages will be thrilled by the sound of this amazing big band.

Press reviews have included:
“without any exaggeration The Dave Hankin Big Band is by far the finest large-scale big band unit that we have ever had in the South West”
“Superb instrumentation and orchestration…the blending of the reeds and brass was exceptional”

See Access, Tickets & Finding Us for more about why there are three ticket prices, plus other useful info about coming to events at Ashburton Arts Centre: getting here, parking, loos, PA tickets, etc.

* We usually have three ticket prices – please pay what you can. If you can pay the full price, that’s great. If choosing a cheaper ticket allows you to come to more things, then please do! Ticket receipts are split between the artists (it’s usually their livelihood!) and the arts centre (keeps the place going). Except on the rare occasions when we have a sellout gig on our hands, it’s always better to have someone here in the audience than an empty seat, so genuinely, please pay whatever you can.
