Singer Ann Liebeck with Julian Rowlands, bandoneon and keyboard and Rory Dempsey double bass

This London-based trio delves deeper into the European influences on Argentinian tango with an eclectic and popular programme with a Gypsy jazz twist. They perform the music of Romanian Gypsy Jazz diva Maria Tanassi, Carmen,Russian tango star Pyotr Leschenko and the ultimate popular singer Edith Piaf. Ann returns to her operetta roots with popular arias with a gypsy flavour by Lehar and Kalman.

The artists are prominent in the Latin Music scene in the UK, especially for their performances of Cuban Music and Tango music with the band Tango Siempre. They’ve been seen on the BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing and headlined a new festival at London’s South Bank Centre in July 2018: Havana Buenos Aires.

Their tour started this year at Pizza Express Jazz Club in January and takes in the West Country, Dublin, Edinburgh Festival Fringe, ending up at the Purcell Room, South Bank Centre, London in September 2019.

‘…delivered with Panache’ The Times (April 2017) on Violetta’s Last Tango at Wilton’s Music Hall, featuring Ann Liebeck and Julian Rowlands.
